Amendments to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Code of Criminal Procedure – Part 2

On June 22, 2015, an amended Code of Criminal Procedure (CCP) went into effect in the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI). While the original draft of this code, which was passed in February 2014, was considered a relatively positive development, last-minute amendments made just before the law was to be implemented have raised serious concerns of further deterioration of the state of the rights of defendants in Iranian courts.
